ENGT 2000 Professional Development Course Syllabus
General Information:
For the spring 2012 semester, Professor Allen Rioux is the instructor of record for ENGT 2000.
However, the course is actually team taught by both Mr. Rioux and Ms. Myrna Rudder,
the Academic Program Coordinator for the Engineering Technology Department.
In addition, Ms. Susan Rowe, the co-op director for the ET department will participate in many of the

Course Description:
ENGT 2000 Professional Development.
[1 semester credit hour (1-0-0)].
This course provides an introduction to and appreciation of the various performance expectations in the engineering profession. Resume writing, public speaking and interviewing skills are developed. The course prepares the student for entry into the engineering profession, including ethics, office etiquette, social responsibilities, employment practices, and the value of continuing education and professional registration.
Course Objectives:
After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Communicate confidently, both verbally and in written form.
- Behave appropriately and ethically in a professional environment.
- Appreciate the value of life-long learning.
- Prepare an effective resume, cover letter and complete a professional job interview.
- Enter the engineering profession with poise and confidence.

Course Requirements and Notes:
- Attendance is mandatory.
Students are expected to attend all scheduled on-campus meetings of this course.
Students who stop attending classes and do not appropriately initiate a withdrawal from the course
will receive an "F" grade for the course.
- Students are required to subscribe to the course Listserv and participate in any assigned discussions.
- ALL assignments are to be completed ON TIME and appropriately labeled.
Late assignments may be accepted subject to the instructor's descretion and a grade reduction.
- 10% penalty for work submitted one day late
- 25% penalty for work submitted between two days and the start of the next class meeting
- 100% penalty for work submitted after the start of the next class meeting
- You will be responsible for all material covered in class
as well as the assigned material on this website.
- No make-up exams will be given unless prior notification is provided
to the instructor and permission is obtained. Make-up exams will be
given only in the case of unusual or extenuating circumstances.
- Final grades are calculated based on completed course work.
