6. Interviewing
Due: Thursday, February 23, 2012
Revise your resumé:
  1. Revise your draft resumé taking into account the comments and editing marks made by your instructor. Pay attention to formatting as well as content. Remember to have someone read your revised resumé and give you feedback. The goal is to make this resumé BETTER than the first one you submitted!
  2. Your second draft resumé should fix any problems identified by your instructor. Pay attention to detail. When we grade your revised resumé we will be looking to see if you paid attention to the mark-up of your first draft.
  3. Print your revised resumé.
  4. Staple your revised resumé to the one marked up by your instructor (revised version on top) and submit them both.

5. Researching a Company
Due: Thursday, February 16, 2012
Part I - Prior to the start of the next class meeting, accomplish the following tasks:
  1. Use whatever resources necessary to research the company to which you wrote your cover letter in assignment 4 below. You should begin with the appropriate job posting furnished below as they will include some useful information about the company.
    1. CET - Kiewit, Phoenix, Arizona
    2. MET/EET - GEM Inc., Walbridge, Ohio
    3. CSET/IT - SSOE, Toledo, Ohio
    4. CSET - Rosetta, Cleveland, Ohio
    NOTE: Do not contact the company as part of your research efforts. However, feel free to talk with Susan about the company, and, if you can identify them, to talk with other students who have worked for the company on a co-op assignment.
  2. Be sure to use the same company that you did in assignment 4 below. Also, be sure to answer the suggested questions included in this linked document.
  3. Using Microsoft Word, print the questions and your answers to them and hand in this document at the beginning of class. Make certain that your name is on the paper.

4. Cover Letter Preparation
Due: Thursday, February 7, 2012
Prior to the class meeting on the due date above, accomplish the following tasks:
  1. Prepare a draft cover letter to forward your resumé in response to a specific job posting. You may use any of the job postings furnished below.
    1. CET - Kiewit, Phoenix, Arizona
    2. MET/EET - GEM Inc., Walbridge, Ohio
    3. CSET/IT - SSOE, Toledo, Ohio
    4. CSET - Rosetta, Cleveland, Ohio
    Note: These are typical co-op position job postings (from past semesters) so they will be GREAT practice for your eventual job search.
  2. Make certain that your cover letter is responsive to the ad posting that you select.
  3. Print your draft cover letter and submit the document at the beginning of class.

3. Resumé Preparation
Due: Thurday, February 2, 2012
Prior to the class meeting on the due date above, accomplish the following tasks:
  1. Prepare a draft resumé detailing your qualifications. Use the example layout identfied in class as that preferred by the Career Development Center. Print your draft resumé and submit this draft resumé at the beginning of class. There is no need to use special paper for printing this version of your resumé.
  2. Neatness counts! Your draft resumé should be word processed and neatly printed. It will be graded for content, grammar and spelling.

2. Co-op Policy & Qualification Check Sheet
Due: Thursday, January 26, 2012
Prior to the start of class on the due date above, accomplish the following tasks:
  1. Print a copy of the "ET Co-op Qualification Check Sheet" from the course web site.
  2. Complete the first half of Check Sheet (through the GPA item) as it applies to your current situation. Place your name in the upper right corner of this document and turn in to your instructor at the beginning of class.

1. Listserv & Email
Due: no later than Thursday, January 19, 2012
Prior to class on the due date above, accomplish the following tasks:
  1. Subscribe to the course Listserv. Instructions are provided on this web site.
  2. Verify that your email address for "firstname.lastname@rockets.utoledo.edu" is functional.
  3. If necessary, activate your engineering account.
  4. Verify that your "eng.utoledo.edu" email account is functional. Web access to your engineering email is https://webmail.eng.utoledo.edu/. If you are not an engineering student, inform your instructor.
